A Few Current Thoughts
Recently I have been having a lot more conversations about US politics, the upcoming election and the affects this will have on the stock market. For obvious reasons this has been a very contentious and popular conversation.
However, I would like to take the unpopular side of this discussion and say that it doesn't matter. It's all noise, ignore it.
Ok, obviously politics, elections, who the president is etc. are very important and can influence many things, but when it comes to the long term performance of the US (and Canadian) economy, it matters very little. At least in terms of predicting how the outcomes will influence your wealth.
The following article is well written on this topic and discusses the exact reasons why you should not mix politics and your portfolio.
